The second annual Baltimore County Land Preservation Breakfast is scheduled for Thursday December 8 from 8 – 10am at the Holiday Inn Select Timonium. Officials from the federal, state and local level will be on hand to discuss their agenda for land preservation in 2006, and to hear the concerns of their constituents.
Sponsored by Baltimore Counties’ Land Trusts the Breakfast provides an opportunity for concerned residents to let their elected officials know that land preservation matters in Baltimore County.
Baltimore County residents have permanently protected more than 44,000 acres of farms and forests. Federal, state and local programs have all been essential to this effort. At the federal level tax credits for donated easements have resulted in the preservation of 12,600 acres in Baltimore County. The state government funds Program Open Space which provides the funding for the purchase of agricultural and Rural Legacy Easements, protecting more than 25,000 acres. Supportive local zoning and additional local funding provide the security necessary for individuals to commit to the permanent preservation of their land.
Last year more than a dozen elected officials attended the breakfast, presenting their land preservation concerns for the coming year. Questions to the officials regarded the continued funding of Program Open Space and the need to enact zoning to further limit development in the Rural Areas.
The cost of the breakfast is $10, and if you would like to attend, please contacts Page Wasti at the Valleys Planning Council (410) 337-6877, or email annholmesjones@yahoo.com.
Please join your local land trusts in letting your elected officials know that Land Preservation Matters in Baltimore County!
